Awareness Brigade (December 1-8th, 2019)
Here’s your opportunity.
Come spend a week with the Friends of Honduran Children at the Nuevo Paraiso Children’s Village!
When is it?
We are looking forward to returning to Honduras, December 1-8th, 2019.
Where will you go?
We’ll tour the Reyes Irene Valenzuela School for Girls, in the capital city of Tegucigalpa, as well as the elementary and high school on the Nuevo Paraiso property.
What will you do?
Our plans for the week include visiting a remote rural school, taking school supplies, food and clothing to the families whose children attend. Our main focus will be spending time with the children, playing/reading with them, attending their ESL classes on Saturday, and visiting the homes of the Tias, the women who take care of the children.
We will also do a small building/improvement project on the grounds of the village, either at the homes or school.
In previous years we organised a Christmas party for the children, a sports day for the older boys, and a trip to Tegucigalpa for all the younger children.
During the fall, we’ll collect clothing, personal hygiene supplies, medicines, shoes and books to take with us. Each person is permitted to take 2 bags (50 lb limit in each bag) to distribute at the Children’s Village and the remote school we visit. Last year, we filled a knapsack for each child at the rural school!
What is the cost?
The minimum donation goal will be $2200 to cover flight, transportation, room and board. All participants are expected to raise an additional $500-$1000, for activities and children’s needs experienced during your trip.
