By this time most of you have heard that Sister Maria Rosa has gone to be with her Father in heaven. This was not unexpected since she had been failing for quite a while but it still leaves a large hole in our hearts that she is gone.
I first met Sister over 40 years ago and at that meeting she captivated me so much with her charisma and charm that she changed my life and that of my family forever. We became life long friends with our many trips to her home, and her trips to our home here in Peterborough. It was Sister who gave us the inspiration to set up Friends of Honduran Children so that we could assist in her work for the poor and underprivileged children. Her motto of “There’s always room for one more” and “if it is God’s work he will provide the funds” was often an overwhelming challenge for us, but things always seemed to work out because what we were doing was “God’s work”. She was my role model in my life’s spiritual journey as she was for the many who spent time with her. She was not perfect and had many struggles along the way but her faith never faltered. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother Mary and love of God was so evident in all she did.
We will miss her terribly but know that she will continue to help us do His work from her new home in heaven and will continue to remind us that there is always room for one more. Thank you Sister for being such a large part of our lives and watch over us from your new home with your Father in heaven.
